PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS – GENERAL INFORMATION

Photovoltaic panels represent the energy generator within a photovoltaic system. The panels have the role of converting photon energy into electrical energy made with the help of several photovoltaic cells. A photovoltaic panel is composed of several photovoltaic cells electrically connected and laminated between high-transparency vinyl acetate sheets covered with low-iron, weather-resistant glass.

The photovoltaic panel is also known as the photovoltaic module or photovoltaic solar panel.

Photovoltaic panels are of monocrystalline, polycrystalline and amorphous type and can be mounted depending on the characteristics of the project on the roof, terraces or directly on the ground. For each of these cases, the fastening systems are different. Recently, integrated roof mounting systems have been developed, the photovoltaic panels being produced with waterproofing systems included (SUNRIF system), transparent or hybrid (in combination with thermal panels).

The yield of photovoltaic panels has increased recently, reaching 20% and the life span is over 25 years and is determined to the greatest extent by the origin and quality of the photovoltaic cells, their bonding technology, the transparency of the ethyl vinyl acetate foils in which are mounted, the vacuum technology and the transparency of the glass. The initial performances of the photovoltaic panels are reduced over time as a result of the aging of the materials from which they are made, the quality of the foils and the glass being essential for the evolution of the output power over time.
